Summer is the time for tan lines, tall cans, and all your favorite country music. This summer at Harrah's Resort Southern California, they have put together weekly country concerts outside next to the pool! 'Cowboy Boots & Swimsuits' presents nightly concerts after a day of margaritas, beers, laying in the sun on a beach chair, and drifting down the lazy river. The tickets are under $30 and support your favorite artists, while giving you access to an intimate and smaller outside venue. You will be closer to the artists, have access to a poolside bar, steakhouse inside the hotel, or (my personal favorite) the Mexican cantina next to the pool entrance.
Earlier this summer I attended the first day of the concert series, but wanted to try my best to make it to at least one more. My mom and aunt decided to take a trip down with me and attend the salsa night inside the casino while I head out to the concert. It was a perfect mini vacay away from LA. Here are my tips and tricks if you want to make it out for any show at Harrah’s!
Tips for Checking in:
As a long time Expedia lover, I naturally use my app to book my hotel, but when there wasn't a smoking room available, I called the front desk to ask about availability of non smoking rooms that I could switch to if I were to book the room on my app. (Remember that the hotels usually only set aside a certain number of rooms for third party hotel companies.)
The front desk was able to offer me, first of all, a huge discount on the room for being a returning guest, a non smoking room, and secondly, an early check in since I was blogging their concert series I was invited to from the last visit.
Don't underestimate the use of a quick phone call these days. Everyone loves the anonymity of an app, but putting a name and joke to a reservation goes a long way. Introduce yourself and tell them why you are visiting and the front agent can recommend things to do, tell you about discounts available, and even book you a reservation for a hassle free dinner at the steakhouse!
Hotel Room:
There are two towers at the hotel that are NOT far from one another so don't worry about being "closer" to anything. Yet, there is definitely one tower that is newer. The modern furniture and accent lighting details are perfect for your Instagram shots in the room. The rooms are bright, clean, and extremely comfortable. My room had a beautiful room of the lazy river and palm trees lining the pool!
Head to the Rewards desk as your first stop and register for a card to earn points as you can swipe your card on EVERY purchase at any location in the restaurant. The magazine in the room (also available downstairs) had a coupon for a buy one get one free smoothie you could use IF you had a rewards card. Sign up and then ask for any active coupon deals inside the resort!
Buying Tickets:
Buying tickets in advance gives you the cheapest rates since at the door becomes a bit more expensive. The concert doors open at 7, but you can be at the pool before and come back for your wristband to stay in the pool, sit at the bar, or stand in front of the stage. THE BONUS TIP (not sure if this is even allowed, but I did it):
ROBEKS + GIFT SHOP MAGIC: Head over to Robeks and order the pina colada flavored smoothie, or light peach and strawberry fruit smoothies and head over to the gift shop where they sell $5 shots of great Tequila! Then simply pour, stir, and head to the pool with your make-shift blended smoothie cocktail and sip poolside!
I ended up putting 2 mini bottles in my smoothie and found myself feeling MIGHTY fine poolside. xx
Fun Hotel Bonus #2:
Something so quirky and fun to do at the hotel (especially to someone that loves to travel) is their Funner Passport. You can grab one at the hotel desk or info.
The passport book allows you to get a sticker for every place you "travel" to in the hotel. Whether you eat at the cafe, have a margarita by the pool, or grab a smoothie, your purchases go toward earning you rewards.
As you collect stickers in your passport book by "where you go" (as in food, beverages, activities etc.) then you can fill one "place" in your book and earn yourself prizes!!

I've been following Devin Dawson's rising career pretty closely this year, having started off the "blogging year" attending his album release party in January.
